MADRID - MESÓN TXISTU
MESÓN TXISTU
A Little off the beaten track, this is a very traditional Basque Restaurant.
With an old-school setting.
Once settle in, we had, Jamón Iberico de Bellota
Almejas marinera (fisherman's clams)
Gambas con huevos revueltos (prawns with scrambled eggs)
Calamare fritas (fried squid)
You can also try,
Tortilla de bacalao (cod omelette)
Rape a la plancha (grilled monkfish)
Solomillo (sirloin steak)
Chuleta de ternera a la parrilla (grilled veal chop)
Pierna de cordero (leg of lamb)
Postre especial de la casa (house desert)
Sorbete de limón (lemon sorbet)
The most popular dish is the famous Chuletón Txistu (which is sliced raw and you cook yourself on hot plates). Can leave the room smokey if a lot of people have it!
There is an excellent and long wine list.
This place is very popular with Madrid footballers and the city's bullfighters. It is better to sit in the main restaurant rather than the outside covered terrace. Don't come here if you are looking for modern molecular cooking this is old school, with typical but friendly, stuffy service.
