IBIZA - SANT JOSEP - ES BOL NOU -- RESTAURANT SA CALETA

RESTAURANT SA CALETA

We returned to our old favourite, Restaurant Sa Caleta, during a spring trip to Ibiza.

On this occasion, we had lunch, which included,

Almejas Marinera (clams in a fisherman's style)

Endivias queso azul roquefort, miel y nueces (Endives, Roquefort blue cheese, honey & walnuts).

Fideruada (a seafood paella with pasta instead of rice)

Combination tres tartas

We had a refreshing bottle of Belondrade y Lurton (Rueda) 2016 to drink @ €50

To finish, we had the usual fiery café caleta.

The spring weather was changeable with sunshine, rain, and wind, but a very pleasant 20°C

In the summer, a masseur sets up tables at the beach entrance. Next to the Restaurant is a chilling lounge, Es Jardí, where you can have a drink and sometimes listen to live music in the evening.

The following is from a previous visit in the summer of 2021.

For a tasty seafood lunch or dinner, Restaurant Sa Caleta is located between the airport and Cala Jondal. Just before turning off at Cala Jondal, you will see a sign for the Restaurant on the left.

Drive down the dusty Camino, where ample parking is at the bottom.

On the left, you will see the Restaurant.

Here you will find all sorts of excellent Ibicencan seafood like:-

Pimientos de Padrón

Boquerones (fresh anchovies in vinegar)

Calamares a la plancha (grilled squid)

Mejillones a marinera (mussels fishermans stye)

Gambas a la plancha (grilled prawns).

Paellas

Arroz a banda

Dorada (gilthead sea bream)

All kinds of live crustaceans can be chosen from the seawater tanks by the side of the Restaurant.

Everyone sits outside in the summer.

Try one of the excellent white wines from Rueda (the verdejo grape variety is good) or an albariño from Rias Baixas in Galicia. They also serve excellent local wines, especially the rosés.

After your meal, you must have the famous house speciality, café Caleta (a flaming hot coffee infused with local liqueurs, spices, orange peel and lemon).

Be careful, it is powerful, so do not go swimming after!

At the end of your meal, you may need a lie-down! So, walk down to the sandy beach below. The beach is set against a breathtaking backdrop of copper-red cliffs.

The beach is relatively shallow, making it ideal for children.

You can also participate in a local custom: Fill a bucket of water with the rich copper sand, cover yourself with your homemade mud pack, and roll in the nearby seaweed, which sticks to the sand.

Then lie down and bake yourself in the sun for 20/30 minutes until your self-made face/body mud pack is dry; you can dive into the sea and wash it all off.

In the summer, a masseur sets up tables at the beach entrance. Next to the Restaurant, there is a chillout lounge where you can have a drink and listen to live music in the evening.

The Restaurant is open all year, but you must book in summer.
