What Eastbourne hotels could learn from Hotel Niza would fill a telephone directory. It’s got the seafront location you want and the period facade that every kiss-me-quick hotel needs.

The bedrooms are fresh, airy, and stylish in an untrendy way

The view to the right takes you to Parte Vieja (old town) and the harbour.

It is a lovely spot to sit and watch the world go by while enjoying a glass of Basque wine.

A word of warning: the ocean view rooms do not have aircon because you are told the breeze from the ocean should be enough. This is primarily OK in San Sebastián, but it can get a little hot and stuffy in the height of Summer.

The common areas are very stylish.

The bar/breakfast room looks out to the sea. Later in the day, it serves pintxos, and in the morning, it offers a good breakfast buffet with several protein options. Breakfast is extra, but you can choose whatever you want, which is as good a value as anywhere nearby.

The feature ornate hand-operated lift worked perfectly well.

The hotel is close to the Parte Viejo (old town), the Centro (new town), and the harbour.

Strolling through the streets at night, you are spoilt for choice, pintxos galore, and all the top-rated restaurants.

You can also have dinner at Restaurante Narru, located below the hotel. It is highly rated and has terrific service.

I would also recommend exploring some scenic trails and views close to the hotel.

I can’t imagine a better place to stay in San Sebastián for someone who wants a perfect location, a charming small hotel with excellent staff. They are fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Basque (maybe more).
