ALEMERÍA - CABO DE GATA - LAS NEGRAS - LA SAL

RESTAURANTE LA SAL

Las Negras is a Spanish seaside town in the province of Almería, belonging to the municipality of Níjar. It is located within the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata-Níjar about 50 km from the provincial capital, Almeria and is a great base for exploring the area.

It was very busy and lively when we visited in July 2019 and was virtually 100% Spanish tourists. Most of the waiters in the restaurants did not speak any English. There are other decent restaurants, La Palma, but we choose La Sal.

La Sal is a restaurant with a good product and cooking with certain pretensions, a wine list above the average for the area and fantastic views overlooking the beach (which has darkish sand and quite a few stones)

It also has the advantage of being one of the few in the area that opens during the week outside the summer season.

The restaurant is on the promenade in front of the beach and is a great spot for lunch or dinner.

There is a small dining room and bar on the ground floor which would be great in winter, but in summer it is best to eat on the large first-floor terrace facing the blue Mediterranean sea.

In addition, the glass barrier around the terrace protects you from the wind and makes the stay more pleasant (if possible). The is also an overhead cover which protects you from the sun but can make a bit of noise in the wind, We settled in for lunch and had the following meal

Appetizer

Corazines de lechuga (lettuce hearts)

Tomate con anchoas (green tomatoes with anchovies)

Pulpo a la brasa con parmentier de patata (grilled octopus with potato puree)

Gallo de San Pedro a la plancha (grilled John Dory with the head deep-fried)

John Dory deep-fried head

John Dory

Flan de queso (cheese flan)

Coulant de chocalate (chocolate coulant)

Hojaldre de manzana (apple puff pastry)

Sopa fria de chocolate (cold chocolate soup)

Finca A Pedreira 2018 (D.O. Rías Baixas)

Sweet local dessert red wine

Handy device for attracting the waiter's attention

The service is friendly, although difficult if you have no Spanish. It seems that the link with the kitchen is a bit slow, maybe because the food comes in waiters dummy.
