ANDALUCÍA - SEVILLA - BARRA BAJA RESTAURANTE
BARRA BAJA RESTAURANTE
This excellent restaurant situated in the center of Sevilla has an open kitchen with the food structured as if in the market, with the food coming from the oyster stall, fruit stall, fish stall, butcher stall, etc.
The freshness of the local 100% Andalusian product is of the most importance here.
Once settled in, we had,
Carpaccio de cigalas (langoustine carpaccio). One of the standout dishes. I have no idea how they could have carpaccioed (if that is a word!) a langoustine, but it was delicious and very skilfully put together.
Corvina a la brasa (grilled large seabass).
Tartar de vaca retinta del bajo Guadalquivir y Tuétano (steak tartar with marrow).
Arroz meloso de pato (sticky, soupy rice with duck). This was another standout dish, the flavour was immense. When I asked how the rice was so smoky and rich they explained that they keep on adding and adding and adding the stock.
Abanico Ibérico (Abanico Iberico is the part that wraps the Iberico ribs from the outside. It is a thin piece, very marbled, which makes it the perfect Iberian pork cut to cook on the barbecue).
Lomo alto de vaca (400g ) (beef sirloin).
Torrija caramelizada y sorbete de naranja (French toast with orange sorbet).
La piña asada (roasted pineapple).
Tarta de queso (cheesecake).
To drink we had, Terra de Godos 2020 D.O. Rías Baixas, 100% Albariño Arena y Caliza D.O Ribera del Duero; tempranillo y Garnacha Vino de terroir criado con sus lías con ligero paso de roble (terroir wine aged on its lees with a oak touch). The food is complimented with an original and creative cocktail menu, which is based on the local Jerez (sherry) wines and liquors as seen in the Espresso Martini PXO below. Patrón XO café, Mezcal Vida, Pedro Ximénez y café espresso
To finish off we had a carajillo café, on this occasion, it was a flaming carajillo coffee, where the liquor was set fire to before adding it to the coffee.
This is a smart casual restaurant, with a nice warm relaxed atmosphere, and an exquisite level of cooking that serves food that is plated close to a fine dining style. It has very affordable prices for the quality and taste of the food you get here. There was a reassuring informative waitress for the wines and also gluten-free was available, if needed.
