RESTAURANT CAÑABOTA One Michelin Star

We returned to Sevilla, having not been for a few years due to Covid and quite a few cancelled flights.

On the first full day, we met up with our friend, Shawn Hennessey, who has run Sevilla Tapas in Sevilla for many years. You can find her by clicking here: Sevilla Tapas.

We started with sherry at Manolo Cateca,

This old favourite of Shawn and ourselves is always worth dropping by.

We then headed off to lunch at Cañabota.

This restaurant specialises in fish and seafood. It offers the informal ambience of a tapas bar and a restaurant. The star attractions are the superb fish display cabinet and charcoal grill.

Cañabota won their first Michelin star in 2021.

We sat down and started with some celebratory cava from Bodega Mestres.

We decided to let chef Juanlu Fernández pick the tasting menu for us, which was a wise choice...

We started with excellent bread and olive oil, followed by,

Seafood soup, sea anemone croquette.

Smoked sardine tatin.

Razor clams, yolk mayo, sherry wine.

Grouper terrine, mushrooms, and truffle.

White prawn tartar with sturgeon caviar.

Hake and leeks.

Sole, artichoke, and seaweed broth.

Grilled oyster and steamed spinach.

Sea bass, cauliflower, and smoked butter.

Red prawns and pickled mushrooms.

Fried grouper.

Grilled amberjack.

Cucumber soup, oyster without oyster.

Chocolate, hazelnut, and salted caramel.

A selection of wines we had during lunch.

It was a fantastic long afternoon. Every morsel was great, the wines were matched to perfection, and Juanlu and his team provided excellent service.

As a side note, we were told Gordon Ramsey was eating in the restaurant that night. Our friend Pankaj was an old friend of his from London, so we stopped in to say hello on our way out that night.
