DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIÁN - CENTRO - ANTONIO BAR

ANTONIO BAR

If you sometimes need a change of pintxo bars from the Parte Vieja (old town) or the Gros area across the bridge, head to the central location and Antonio Bar. It is an unassuming, tiny place that is always busy with primarily local customers.

You will find a few seats inside by the bar and more outside, where the jovial waiter will serve you.

Finding a space may take a minute, but the turnover is quick.

It is a great spot to enjoy,

Txistorra (spicy sausage and crisps)

Hongos del pais con yema de huevo y foie (porcini mushrooms with egg & foie gras). It is almost worth going just for this alone!.

Croquetas de Jamón (ham croquettes)

Crujiente rabo de buey (crunchy oxtail)

Carrilleras de ternera (beef cheeks)

Gambas gabardina (deep-fried prawns)

Solomillo (sirloin)

They also serve one of the town's best tortillas (Spanish omelettes). They have ultra-caramelised onions and are super thick and juicy.

They make minimal quantities (four in the morning and two in the afternoon), so you must go early to avoid missing out.

It usually is bustling. There is an excellent wine and well-poured caña.

It is well worth the trip, just a few blocks from the old town. The service was great. The staff was friendly and amusing, constantly checking to see if everything was okay. If you can, sit at the bar!
