CAFÉ BAR FLOTANTE

The mythical Bar Flotante (floating bar) is set on the shore of the stunning Platja de Talamanca, just outside Eivissa (Ibiza Town).

Along with its neighbour, Hostal Talamanca, it has been here since the 1960s.

Serving locals and tourists alike.

You will find nothing fancy here, nor do you need it.

The service isn't great or fast, but if you're on vacation and not on the run, you can enjoy the ambience for as long as you like.

The food is basic but decent, with good portions, and a bit pricey, but you pay for the location.

You will find local staples like,

Atún con aceitunas (tuna with olives)

Tortilla Francesa (French style omelette, very good, not like they have in most places that looks like cigarette paper)

Patatas bravas (potatoes with a spicy sauce).

Boquerones fritas (fried anchovies).

Gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns).

Calamares a la plancha (grilled squid)

Puntillitas (baby squid)

Chuletas de Cordero (lamb cuttlets)

Pollo a la parrilla (grilled chicken)

It's a simple bar with tradition and charm. You can stop for a coffee and a quiet beer and feel like the clock has stopped.

The terrace is virtually in the water with an appreciated breeze.

And wonderful views.

It is a great place to enjoy the sunrise from its humble terrace overlooking the coquettish bay.

Sit in one of its legendary plastic chairs in silence, with the only sound caused by the sea breaking on the shore and the quacking of the ducks that roam the area for breakfast bread that its owner throws at them first thing in the morning. Photo credit Paco Natera
