IBIZA - PLAYA ES CAVALLET - LA ESCOLLERA
LA SCROLLER

We returned to this atmospheric beach restaurant mid-March on a sunny Monday lunchtime.
We sat outside on the lovely terrace overlooking Playa Es Cavallet as the weather was good.
In winter, seaweed is left on the beach to protect the sand; it is usually removed for the summer.

If the weather is inclement, you can sit in the large dining room, which has a lovely open fire, for chillier low-season or winter dining.
We started with a few aperitives.
Alioli con pan y gazpacho.

Mejillones a la vinagreta

Starters include,
Sardinas a la parrilla (grilled sardines)
Aguacate con burrata y tomate (avocado with burrata and tomato)
Jamón Ibérico de Bellota (Iberian acorn-fed ham)
For the mains try,
Paella de pollo y conejo (chicken and rabbit paella)
One of the show's stars is Gallo (John Dory), a whole fish cooked to perfection and filleted at the table. It is served with peasant potatoes (slices slow-cooked with vegetables in the fish juices).
On this occasion, we had,
Queso croquetas (cheese croquettes).

Almejas a la marinara (clams fisherman's style).

Chopitos (tiny, delicately battered baby squid).

A selection of starters.

Paella Ciega (seafood paella, where all the seafood is peeled and de-shelled.

Also known as paella senyoret or blind paella).

We had a couple of Caña Estrella Galicia each and no wine on this occasion.

The service was helpful and informative.
Playa Es Cavallet is a renowned gay beach,

but good for straights as well.
