CHIRINGUITO CALA ESCONDIDO IBIZA

The walk into Platges de Comte, in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, is around 200 meters from the new car park. In front of you, you will see Sunset Ashram; hidden on the left, you will find the cove of Racó den Xic.

Walking down the 50 or so steps to the beach, you will wonder at this little oasis.

On your left will be the pretty little beach, which, although it has typical Ibicencan naturist roots, also has couples and families.

At the other end, is Chiringuito Cala Escondido Ibiza (Hidden Beach). A beach bar was built into the cliff. The bar is run by the owner, Tess Harmsen, a Dutch woman from Ibiza.

The bar is ecological; it uses all biodegradable materials (no trace of glass or plastic), has solar panels for power, and has a composting toilet.

It is an excellent breakfast place, sitting by the sea waves. You can find cheese, ham, scrambled eggs, avocado toast, pan con tomate using country bread, muesli, and natural juices there.

Because (we believe) there is currently no mobile phone coverage (which means there is no credit card reader, so make sure you have some cash), this spot provides a great calm away from the stress of the outside world. Maybe it's your chance to read a book or admire the stunning view.

At lunchtime, your nose may start getting a few pleasing Moroccan wafts from the aromas of couscous and tajines (vegetarian or chicken) slowly bubbling away. The lunch menu is completed with a vegetarian burger with tomato, avocado, lamb's lettuce, and goat's cheese, all accompanied by crispy chips and a banana cake.

Gluten-free options are available.

Unlike most Chiringuitos and beach bars in Ibiza, this is one of the few that do not play music, leaving that to the natural calming sounds of the sea.
