MADRID - RESTAURANTE LA PRIMERA
RESTAURANTE LA PRIMERA
We were looking for a restaurant for 12 friends over for the Atletico Madrid v Manchester United Champions League football match to have lunch in Madrid. We decided La Primera was the place. The restaurant is located in an ideal spot to enjoy Madrid, on the first floor (hence the name) of an iconic building on the famous Gran Vía. The interior design is elegantly minimalistic, with a Scandinavian look and a dark but cosy colour palette. It is spacious and comfortable.
They offer a fine-dining interpretation of traditional Spanish, particularly Cantabrian cuisine.
As we were a group of twelve, we decided on two sets of six starters to share and started with,
Tartar de Bonito (tuna tartar) .

Anchoas (anchovies cantabrico).

Patatas bravas (potatoes with spicy tomato sauce).

Croquetas de Jamón (ham croquettes).

Patatas rellenas robo de toro (potatoes stuffed with bull tail, similar to oxtail).

Tajada Merluza (hake Slice).

Arroz negro con gambas (black rice with prawns). I had this, and it was excellent.

Cordero deshuesado (boneless lamb) (no photo).
Arroz seco verduras (dry rice with vegetables).

Bonito con nori (tuna nori).

We had three bottles of Juvé y Camps Reserva Brut Natural and three bottles of Belondrade y Lurton 2019 (D.O. Rueda) to drink.
The desserts were paying tarta de queso 'can (house cheesecake).

Flan con nata was particularly good (flan with cream).

Brownie chocolate.
Tarta de zanahoria (carrot cake).
We finished with a carajillo (cafe solo with brandy).

Everyone agreed the food was of a high level. We received friendly and polite treatment at all times.
You will need to reserve a table, and you should ask for one next to a window overlooking the Gran Via to enjoy the view.
After the meal, we went to the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw and was played in a great atmosphere. The Manchester contingent went home quite happy.
