MADRID - RESTAURANTE TRICICLO
RESTAURANTE TRICICLO Michelin Bib Gourmand

The restaurant's name fits like a glove, as the "tricycle" is a very accurate metaphor for the three young chefs running the show here. One worked in the original DiverXO restaurant in the Madrid district of Tetuán; one was always a chef, and the other was a cyclist and poet.

The simple décor combines the height of rusticity with an endearing bistro charm. This simplicity is compensated by a high degree of culinary expertise, which is showcased in well-prepared and attractively presented dishes that encompass personal and traditional, as well as oriental and fusion influences. Dishes on the menu can also be ordered as half portions (medias raciones) or as tapas if desired.
On a snow-locked lunch in Madrid, we had,
Various bread, olive, plain white and brown seeded with olive oil with homemade smoked butter.

Aperitifs

Cherry tomato bloody Mary
Rabbit paté with peach
Prawn croqueta with fennel sauce

Leek from Tudela, raff tomatoes and Jamón.

Stewed Anguiana beans with duck and mushrooms.

Creamy white chocolate, mango passion fruit and yoghurt ice cream.

Headman Luis learned his perfect English whilst living in the Charlton area of South London and working at Benares Indian Restaurant & Bar in Berkeley Square. He has a London accent!
The wines to go with the food were,
De la Riva Manzanilla Fina Miraflores Baja

Casa Castillo 2018

Kerpen Weinhaus 1993 Riesling Auslese

Irene, the waitress, put together the enjoyable, easy-listening playlist inspired by her Spanish parent's love of the rat-pack style of music by Dean Martin, Fred Astaire, Nancy Sinatra, etc.
